My friends at the "low fare" airlines have no desire to work for a major now that the pay has fallen to their level. It makes no sence finacially.

who's being the jerk, the guy trying to hold on to his pay or the guy lowering the bar. who's being shortsided the guy trying to make a quick buck by a fast upgrade with lower pay or the guy trying to preserve his...

I love how we never hold ourselve (pilots) accountable for our actions. we love to blame management for everything. it's managements fault that jetblue, airtran, virgin america coming soon, pay so little. that's the biggest piece of BS that I have ever heard. it's our fault that we flock to to those jobs just to have a job. it's about time that we start holding ourselves accountable for some of these crap wages. what have we done to stop the whip sawing at the regionals. nothing, hell NWA pilots actually allowed the creation of another regional, compass. sorry mesaba and pinnicle. how about gojets, if that isn't a wolf in sheeps clothing I don't know what is.

This talk of scabs is getting a bit old. We could sling mud at just about anyone's airline for crappy practices. Velocipede, what about the Alaska rampers. The company fired all the union guys and hired Menzie scabs. I bet you are one of the guys who says they voted themselves out of a job. I bet someone else could say they took a stand. Look at what mangement did to the Alaska pilot payrates...slash and burn. What did you do about it? Are you just going to blame management or hold yourself and the union accountable for letting it happen? You now ask the JetBlue pilots to have the guts to do something you would not do. I would say you should calm down, quit calling names and get some perspective. Everyone's company does crappy things and you can't blame others for the situation in your own house. I know several JetBlue pilots and they are not happy with pay where it is. Let them sort it out their way. Things don't happen overnight especially when it comes to money. What happens if they start making more than you?

Isnt this a capitalist economy? How does one stop others from "lowering the bar" when they take jobs at new entrants?

If I worked at a company that was undercutting the rest of the airlines I'd have no problem with that. How would you feel if you didn't have your scope protection and fedex was allowed to transfer flying to another airline because they would do it for less? (ie. the regional and especially freedom and gojets) You have to admit that cargo carriers are in a completely different game when it comes to start up carriers.

That would certainly be a good point if we all had the luxury to uproot a family and move to our base city, only to move again five years later to a new place. This aint the military in terms of moving around all the time and part of professional courtesy is to let someone ride in the seat if it is open. I was raised in a union family, and I hate, let me reiterate, hate scabs, but just remember that that scab may have a family at home, and to punish the rest of his family for his idiotic mistake/decision is about as pathetic as you could get.
