Also, even if there were 10 reitrements per month, it would take 10 months to move up 100 numbers. Not the 3 or so it seemed to be.
Maybe I misunderstood. Sorry.
Currently we are retiring 20-25 per month and hiring 40-50 per month. With PBS many want to stay senior before bidding an upgrade. Otto, is correct. Many new hires here at CAL will be able to upgrade in 3 years in my opinion.

We hired something like 400 last year and retired 200. 2007 we retire 325 and will hire 400-450 again.

The math speaks for itself.

Not Quite. I just looked it up. The most junior guy awarded 737 CA on the last bid was hired by CAL on 2/20/01 and he has not been trained yet. He would have been here more than 6 years before he finishes IOE. He will be 39 years old.

I spoke to soon. He starts IOE on Dec. 20, so will be checked out in the left seat just a few weeks shy of 6 years.

I don't believe that CAL hired in 2003. In-fact, they had guys on furlough. Perhaps what your friend was saying is that the most junior guy to hold Captain was hired in 2001, furloughed and recalled, so effectively he has a 2003 hire date (?)

Keep in mind that holding Captain and upgrading are two different things. At CAL we bid for the coming year; therefore the most junior person holding Captain may have to wait ten or eleven before actually cashing the paycheck.

All in all, given that everything remains contant in the industry: we don't merge; age 60 stays intact; economy doesn't take a dump, CAL has some unbelievable progression in the coming years. We'll see.
