Default CAL Upgrade time?

Can anyone (besides Ottopilot) say what the upgrade time at CAL is currently?
On one post he says 3-4 years. Then 2 months later he says he's 200 from uprgrade, then 3 months later he's 100 away and going to upgrade next year.
A two year upgrade?

New hires today will likely be able to upgrade to captain in EWR on the 737 in 3 to 4 years. This is assuming current growth continues.

Thanks. Still waiting for the call (or not) from SWA. If not, then my friends say they will talk to the chief pilot in EWR to see if I can get over to the right pile.
Tough call, because I am finally going to upgrade at my current company.

Life is full of dilemmas and challenges. I have a friend who received job offers from CAL, SWA and JB in the same week. How's that for a position to be in?
Good Luck!

That's the best position to be in.... The position to pick and choose.... and the worst thing that person has to do is tell somebody no.....

why even bother to speculate about upgrade time at a major? It is a variable that can change at any time.....just be glad if you are blessed enough to get to a major

Huh? So if I said three years to upgrade at CAL and I'm able to upgrade next year, then that is 3 years for me (I've been here two years already). We've had a lot of retirements at the end of the year (two a day+ in November), some early, so yes, I'm 100 away from upgrade in EWR 737. Why is that confusing?

Of course this is based on current trends. There are lots of more senior pilots than me that are FO's and may stay FO's. 767/777 (787 soon) FO's do alright, so why upgrade to junior 737 CA in EWR. It's a choice a pilot makes based on what they want. I live near EWR (can sit reserve at home). I need money. I'll most likely upgrade ASAP. I'm in no hurry to upgrade, but bills need paid, so I may have to.

All this may change. New hires now make take longer than 3-4 years.? Two years ago, when I was hired, things were a little different. Two years from today, things may be different too- good or bad different. For now CAL has a lot of retirements and EWR 737 CA is a junior position, so upgrade looks good. I hope this clears it up for you.

What was confusing, is that you said you were hired in 2005? "Next year" to me is 2007. 2007-2005=two years.
Also, even if there were 10 reitrements per month, it would take 10 months to move up 100 numbers. Not the 3 or so it seemed to be.
Maybe I misunderstood. Sorry.

When I was hired with USAirways in 1999, they told my newhire class that we would be Captains within 5 years. I wonder what happened????
