I've heard 80-100 quit in the last few months. That's what you get when you hire young and inexperienced in the industry. Being assigned NYC base is a deal-breaker for some and the illusions of 40 hour intl layovers when the reality is domestic ones causes this to happen. They're hiring again and invited some who were rejected several months ago to September training. I also hear they're adding to those numbers before the really big hiring (1,000-2,000 if the rumors are true).

So I think your right about it being extremely competitive. For the others that are worried it is a bad place to work...Well that's easy, this is America so your free to sit on your ass and get free health care, a phone and a little walking around money, all paid for by the nanny state federal government.

fyp.......
If you look at what a regional Captain makes, take home after taxes, it is very comparable to what someone makes on a full welfare package. That said, I can never understand why anyone would want to take a job as a flight attendant, when welfare pays solidly more money, and you're home every night.

Yeah speak for yourself if you're a RJ CA making that sort of wage. Many do just fine on RJ Captain pay, not a killing but not what you make it out to be. Last year my buddies and I (similar seniority) were making anywhere from the mid 80's to around 100k.

My vote goes to Jerry Grinstein and Anderson comes second. Then you really have to go back decades to find another good one.

I'll second Buzz. RA is the smartest, most effective CEO that we've had in decades. I'm a very skeptical person, but he does things consistently that treat Delta employees and customers right.

I can't say that he treats DCI or DGS necessarily the same, but that's a choice for the people who work for those companies. He drives a hard bargain.

For all intents and purposes he is the leader of DCI. Those (DCI)are front line employees that represent the brand as much as a mainline crewmembers. He effectively drives down his bottom 1/3 employees to help prop up the rest. It would be genius if only that bottom 1/3 gave a crap. At this point they don't and it hurts the brand.

Elvis/Buzz,

RA may be the best CEO in the industry - I hope so and time will tell, but I agree that DAL deserves a very low score in any "brand" survey." But then again so do all legacy carriers.

My logic follows starting with a pretty generic definition of "Brand" off of Wikipedia.

Brand is the "name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's product distinct from those of other sellers"[1]

How can Deltas product be "distinct" when a DAL ticket may result in flying on any number of subcontractors all chosen primarily on cost?

Delta Air Lines reliance on subcontractors is the antithesis of branding.

Hopefully RA can improve the brand image of Delta. I don't know if we deserve to be last but we definitely have plenty of room for improvement.

If I had my druthers, DCI would say Skywest, Expressjet, etc. as a codeshare like we do with Alaska Airlines, because that's really what it is. DCI has contracts with other majors as well; they're all independent companies.

If I truly had my way, we wouldn't have any DCI and you'd be a Delta Seniority List pilot.

The only way scores will increase is if fares drop and baggage fees go away.
