I'd add ONLY if they agree to intverview you.

Plenty of dudes bought a 73 type hoping for SW when it was super competitive to NEVER get a call.....

Is it worth it in today's hiring environment to use my benefits for the type to maybe get in sooner or just wait it out? If so 737NG or Airbus 320? Lastly recommendations, I'm currently looking at CPT (crew pilot training).

Not required, and will not really highlight your app. This was confirmed by UAL at their mil event 10 Nov 16. They will put you through training as required depending on the equipment you pick/get assigned, which is an unknown until your indoc. You could get any one of their numerous airframes and so this will negate your 737 type...one caveat may be SWA, which is exclusive 737 fleet. Two friends of mine said it helped in that company. Both were military. Cheers!

This is terrible advice. First year pay might be slightly higher, but in the event you get stuck you'll be much happier at any ULCC than a regional FO making 39 bucks an hour.

Agreed. That guy gave probably the worst advice I've ever seen on this forum.

You may have misinterpreted what I said. I did not tell him to avoid the LCCs. My advice was simply that if he was looking to get hired somewhere without delay and build 121 time...go to one of the higher paying regionals as they pay halfway decent. And BTW not every regional will you be stuck as an FO forever. Was just pointing out some regionals pay better than some ULCCs for first year.

By all means...if he can get hired at a ULCC quickly, then go there and build experience. Next time I'll be more clear to avoid putting out "the worst advice ever seen."
