Default Pay question

I'm new to the forums , long time airline employee but currently working on getting my ratings.

I've always wondered how the pay scales work, but been lurking here for many years ,figured is time to ask.

When does year one start? 12 months after starting or 24 months after starting ? Meaning two years already worked.

Also when you upgrade to captain do you reset over to year one or you keep the amount of years that you been a first officer , as in , I've been an FO for 4 years , now I start at captain pay year 4 scale or year 1?

Just looking for some clear answers on this.

Thank you .

Year two starts at the end of month 12 and beginning of month 13. Although where those months started at has varied at certain companies. Some would measure FIRST day of class, others completion of sim checkride, others completion of IOE. The places I've worked at it was the first day of class.

The majority use your longevity. So in your example, FO for 4 years enters the CA scale at 4 years.

I think maybe VX didn't do that for while, and I can't remember if the Pinn-deavor contract now has CA's go back to year 1 or not. But almost ALL companies keep you at your longevity when upgrading.

For almost all airlines your class date initiates year one pay. However, newhire training pay varies by different airlines. Once you complete IOE then you go on first year pay at monthly guarantee. At the 12 month mark you'd start year two pay.

As for upgrading yes you keep your longevity. VX fixed this issue a while ago. Endeavor pilots also get longevity for upgrade.

Yeah the training pay can hurt quite badly depending on what he/she was use to making before the jump. Best to plan accordingly. Good point.
