Sorry for the wait folks.

This is truly a question and not a bash on ALPA, but what do they have to do with hiring? My limited knowledge makes me think hiring is out of ALPAs reach and only an HR deal. The departments are separate from my understanding.

Right now it has nothing to do with ALPA or our union.

I am hoping that in the future we can streamline this process in the future via a committee through the union and at least have some input. I know a few people who do interviews that want to do this through the union. However, the union is in it's infancy and I don't see it happening soon.

Right now I would say that our current process is broken. People getting calls from JB HR saying that they could "expect a class date" and then getting turned down is mind boggling. It sounds like some people may be getting the TBNT letter/email because the Pilot Hiring Committee somehow deems the candidate unfit for JB or a training risk. We have been having issues with some new-hires recently and maybe the PHC is trying to fix an issue before it becomes an issue. Same with recent experience...maybe the PHC is further weeding people out due to lack of recency. Another reason is that maybe the PHC thinks the candidate would leave for another carrier (Rob Maruster, former COO, stated last year that we need to look at a candidate's location and see if they are a flight risk, no pun intended). It certainly is against their core values (caring, fun, integrity) and is also against their lesser known "Principles of Leadership" (Do the right thing). They have fumbled this hiring process and it no longer works for them or the candidates. To screw with people's lives and string them along is kind of like the pretty girl saying she'll go to the prom with you and then dumping you the day before prom. Not cool, JB.

I agree there are a few kinks in the program, however, I think some are forgetting Phase II is not a job offer. Phase II clearly states in the e-mail that it's still very competitive. From my understanding your file is still up to the board after completing of the background check. Until you receive a congrats you're hired, what they do is legitimate. As for the people enduring the consequences of some erratic changes in the requirements, I do agree it's unfortunate. Yes there should be some standard but with the changes in applicants and the recent struggle in training, I can see where the changes are coming from.

Question

Well, I abandoned ship from the Phase II "pool". (April 8th
Interview). Got the proverbial "offer I can't refuse" and couldn't see turning down a VERY good bird in the hand for the "definite possibility of a firm maybe" by jetBlue.
I think I would have enjoyed the flying there, although I really don't know if a life of commuting was for me.

Good luck all at JB - I think the future looks bright there.

Who did you accept an offer from? If that's something you want to share...

Did you ask if you passed the hiring board?

Part 91 corporate department.
I haven't actually communicated with Jetblue yet. Last I heard from them was "we haven't forgotten about you" phone call - so I don't know if my stuff ever went to the hiring board or not. I was secretly hoping to get the rejection email so I'll know made the right decision. ; ) But I will probably give them a call now that the other job is official.

.
My old AME told me he could tell a commuting pilot by blood pressure and pulse alone.

I thought he was full of BS but via a double blind set of circumstances I found out he was right.

Imagine the punishment to the human system it would take to get it there.
