That sounds like something that computer would be well suited for, finding the flattest terrain in a certain radius instantly and instantly computing whether it can make it. Thanks for the insight.

Geese routinely fly above clouds. It's very possible to hit a flock, and then descend into imc.

LOL yeah good luck with that. Hopefully it gets all the variables right. Flat is relative too. The ramps full of planes are also a "flat" area to a computer. Is the technology there to engineer a no engine autoland (with or without an ILS?) to within the width of a runway? Auto emergency gear extension? Multipile redundant autopilots on emergency power? So let's say you have all that. What is the cost?
