Default (question) Pilot to Dispatcher for AA ?

Hello

Assume a corporate pilot, ATP, MEI, college degree, will retire from Part 91 corporate employer at age 55 with a company pension. Approx 5000 TT PIC Turbine at retirement and company (Part 91) check-airman.

kids will be age 15 and 17 at that point, so dad has college to fund. Kids and Wife are "done with" dad's flying career and being gone all the time from home. They put up with it long enough. If dad misses any more soccer games or school activities dad may be out of a family.

Dad/Family lives in DFW area

Is it possible to join AA (mainline AA, not Eagle) as a dispatcher ? What are the requirements ? Do I need to get my dispatcher certificate first ? What school is recommended ?

this will keep me "in the aviation game" and possibly company travel benefits etc, but not gone on the road. Preferred salary in retirement job is 60K or greater, combined with retired pension and I will be at the same income level as prior flying job.

Thanks !!!

Unless someone knows different, AA won't hire you as a dispatcher, without the license.

You will need a Dispatcher's license. No Part 121 airline will hire you without one.

You will need the Dispatcher Rating and you will have to start at a regional. $28,000/yearly.

Probably right about needing the rating but doubt seriously starting at Eagle would be required. Your experience in the seat will serve you well.
Have you considered a position as a Sim P (non seniority list simulator instructor.) I know we are hiring those.
Sounds like you have a nice plan.

I know that SkyWest will pay for current employees to go to dispatch school. After they have a two contract to stay. After that most are gone to a major airline.

Default (question) Pilot to Dispatcher for AA ?

Go to Envoy as scheduling to get your foot in the door, go to IFOD in DFW for your certificate, then work 2 years at Envoy then flow through to AA mainline... This is the quick way of getting there.

As an ATP you have been exposed to most of the material in the dispatchers written, but the test goes more deeply into meteorology, regulations, especially ETOPS and MEL, and fuel planning.

You can see the current dispatcher question bank at FAA.gov.

My understanding is that there is also a practical test.

Try to talk to an active airline dispatcher.

Are you referring to an actual flow through?
