Default 319/320/321 DCA question.

Hi all,

Seems like after the last Jepp database update our 320 fleet is incapable of correctly flying the DCA RNAV SIDs. According to our internal gripe board DCA clearance delivery is unable/unwilling to issue the National 5 without a refile. Our jets are all Honeywell/Pegasus most with the R1A software. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if we muffed the grounder somehow (wouldn't be the first time). Thanks

We don't fly in to DCA and haven't had any problem with the Jepp app yet, but I'm curious, do you guys use a backup like ForeFlight or anything like that? Is the Jepp app your sole source?

Somehow, I don't think this has much of an impact on what sounds like an FMS database coding issue...

Didn't American have to return to the gate due to iPad issues? Issues stemming from DCA Jepp plates? I had originally misunderstood the question, and I apologize for thread hijacking, but my original question still stands, does AA not use a backup app for iPads? Does AA not have any paper plates on board?

But, you are correct, I see the OP was asking about the FMGC Jepp Database, not the iPad. I was curious about the iPad. Thanks!

Honestly, I don't think it's such a huge deal. Obviously returning to the gate to get replacement iPads or printed charts is a huge PITA, but given the size of the overall operation, I'm guessing the company is okay with the current level of reliability. I'd be surprised if a decision was made to spend money to add another layer of redundancy.

I don't think it is either, but I'm surprised American doesn't have a little bit of redundancy in their EFB program. Pretty fascinating seeing the different approaches different airlines are using.
