In the past, when I jumpseated, I'd call the airlines' 800 number and when the reservation person came on the line, I'd tell them I was a crewmember with FedEx and was interested in jumping of such and such a flight, and would they mind giving me an idea of the loads. Usually, they would accommodate me. Very rarely (usually when they were really busy), they would ask that I call their pilot line.

Remember too that NWA is still one of the last holdouts of limited jumpseats... Unless something has changed, they will only allow 2 offline jumpseaters, regardless of the number of empty seats.

If you go on nwa.com, you can plug in the flight number, and click on view seats. It shows the ones still available.
Also, if you know a nwa guy/girl (and they like you), you can ask for a number you can call, put in the flight, and the employee number from said NWA employee, and it gives you the load, and how many are actually listed.)

NWA allows pilots to list themselves up to 10 1/2 days in advance for a jumpseat (ie: we can reserve a jumpseat for a particular flight). First come, first served. Most junior pilot can reserve the JS and have it even if a senior pilot wants it. NWA pilots still can use the FA jumpseat if it is not being used and there are no seats up front or open seats in the back (i think we are the only airline that allows that).
For off-liners, first come, first served at the gate. But if a NWA pilot shows up, he gets the js.
DC-9: one jumpseat
A319/320: two jumpseats
B757: one jumpseat
If the js is reserved, NWA pilots have priority for seats in the back. Then first come.
Hope this helps.
