I'd rather make a little less $$$ and live longer & healthier!
Oh and the napping on the long haul flights? Don't kid yourself...Half the time you can't sleep due to whatever reasons (loud FAs, turbulence, etc.) Then good luck sleeping at the hotel in mid morning when construction crews take over on the back side of the body clock. Fog of confusion!
No thanks... Domestic is well worth the slightly less pay!
In the end I think Intl goes senior because folks in general don't really care/think about the long term effects, and just want to make the most $$$.
As long as you're still young, it's a great gig. But doing it into your 40s/50s? Suicide. There's a reason those guys look 100 years old when they turn 50!
All IMHO and again, To each their own!

Until someone illegally suspends it to keep our babies safe. We're freedom's last stand, but its always barely a generation away from extinction. As we pass the baton to Gen X/Millenials, who have never known anything other than embedded NEA radicalization, the ice we stand on gets thinner by the day.

aa73. I agree 100% with you. Short-medium haul is healthier and more fun.
I can't stand long haul. Too boring and too hard on your body. I like to sleep well. Your body will appreciate it. The extra money of the long haul is not worthy.

No doubt long haul is tiring. Deep South trips are the worst. Europe has two tough wake ups, after the arrival nap and the next morning when you wake up at 0030-0200 body time for the flight back.
AM departures to Europe are a dream come true. W/b, 15:00-16:00 hr, two day trip. Normal body time. Heaven!!!!
I know a couple sub 500 seniority guys that are thinking of bidding n/b domestic. Europe is wearing them out. They can't hold four man trips so they're talking about bidding domestic until they can hold Asia trips.
Four man to Asia is much easier. Completely different ball game.

Something else to consider. When I attended the FAA Aviation Accident Investigation Course back in the late nineties I was given this statistic. 80% of the worlds air traffic was domestic US. The rest of the world was 20%. 80% of the worlds commercial hull losses occurred in that 20%. I bet those ratios are pretty close today. Nothing safer than domestic 121. Works for me!

While Long Haul can be tough on the body, there definitely is an, "I've made it factor". Domestic and international have their pro's and con's, but if you want an easy job that makes you feel kind of physically bad and pays well, international is for you. If you want slightly less, but enjoy flying, and working "harder", domestic is for you.
