Aside from that, how about asking him if he intends to actually build comradarie between different ALPA groups instead of a "ain't happenin' to me" type of attitude. Fight vigorously for Mesaba, Comair, etc., to strike with the voiding of a contract by a bankruptcy court.
Ask him if the Union has any cajones left.
Does ALPA still have a chubby for the APA?

I worked my tail off spending four days a week for three over three and a half months in the CAL and CALEXP crew rooms in the Winter/Spring 2001 convincing our members to approve the proposed IACP/ALPA merger.
ALPA is what you make of it and if you elect good people and have good people support their elected leaders the chance for success is good.
John Prater is the person responsible for getting me involved in our union. When we were the IACP, I worked with John on the Strike Committee. Now John is our ALPA President and I support him 100%. Lets give him some time as he has much work to do.
Why the shot at ALPA?

The problem is not ALPA. (although they have problems like any organisation), the problem is the Railway Labor Act. This dinosaur is an anachronism and needs to go. It was enacted when the stopping of the railroad would be unacceptable to the country and commerce etc...Today, one airline stopping flying would not be a tremendous burden on the economy. Sure it would hurt. It is suppose to.
A union without the right to strike is almost useless. Airlines employees need the right to call a strike without govt. interference. That should be Praters "JOB ONE."

I even know what it's like to work for an ALPA carrier with terrible incompetent leadership. I worked very hard to recall them but never would I want to get rid of ALPA. ALPA is what you make of it, you elect the best and brightest and have a unified group supporting them the sky is the limit. You elect weak leaders or don't have a unified pilot group then ALPA isn't worth much until the makeup of your MEC's demographics change.
All of this from a poster who I believe works for a non union carrier in a foreign country. Let me ask the poster what have you done in regards to helping your fellow pilots achieve better working conditions and protecting their careers?
My guess is nothing! Just like some (a small percentage shrinking every day) of my fellow pilots at Continental it's all about me!

The reason I responded to the writers post is because of his derogatory remarks toward my union and my union President. I worked my a$$ of getting ALPA on the CAL property. I know what it is like to work for a non union and independent union carrier.

To repeat, if I had an audience with Prater, I'd ask him if he wanted his legacy to be like Woerth's, which was self-serving, union-dividing and job-destructing. Woerth's legacy of selling out 5-6 ALPA carriers is shameful, and the ALPA founding fathers would turn over in their graves if they knew what he did to long-serving ALPA members. Not only would Duane Woerth SELL his own MOTHER to cut a deal....he'd send her COD.
