Yup. This is in the top 3 rules. Self-inflicted pain with this one. Haha.

Beech Dude,
My reality check came during a layover in Cancun. They don't need to see a picture of palm trees, beeches, and turquoise water from your balcony while they're at home with the toddlers. They know where you're laying over, no need to rub it in.

Anyhoo...

It's Thursday, so let's throw it back to a much more humble beginning.

SWA taxi legends are not quite as true as they were before, but occasionally controllers kind of lean on that kind of forward-leaning attitude to get the job done. My last departure out of DEN, GND mentioned something about getting to the runway before it shut down for an inspection or something. Nobody got scared, nothing got broken, but we did manage to take off prior to the runway closure.

Rumors of hover-taxi in ground effect are of course completely groundless as far as anyone can prove.

I remember flying with a young lad with one infant and one on the way. He was hired at KLM. I thought I should impart sage advice. You got a 3 day trip with a layover in Aruba. Your wife and infant have a stomach flu. Don’t come back with a tan. Let me know the enthusiastic welcome home if you do.

I may have actually seen it once, they were taxiing to the 1's or 19's in LAS with a decent west wind, good rate of speed... suddenly all the boards came up and he slowed down big time.

Taxing out in SLC at night after about 6 inches of new snow but just light at the moment. Southwest told to follow us but powers up and jumps in front. Ground admonishes them and they say sorry thought you meant other Delta. We are taxing about 10 knots on snow covered taxiway and Southwest Disappears like we are standing still heading to 34. . Suddenly weird cloud of billowing snow and reflecting lights, snow clears for a second to reveal Southwest sliding to a halt, engines in reverse about 70 degrees off taxiway heading. They found the end of the conga line and apparently needed reverse to stop and the engines did not spool up at the same rate! Long pause as they sat cocked 70 degrees off with no one saying anything. Suddenly someone comes up on the radio and says “Now for my next magical trick”!

Once again, I'm serious when I say ya'll write most of my stuff, I'm just the weird one who's willing to jot it down in a little book and draw a picture next to it on a layover! I'm dead serious. That's my process. (jeez I sound like an artist, I need to go buy a turtle neck and a cigarette holder and start smoking)

Anyhoo...

Monday, start a 4 day tomorrow, here we go...

Yeah, I dread the day my wife discovers those.
