DCA block parking....
I figure because we had the taxi light thread we should have one for the people who can't figure out how to park in the block at DCA. I'm not the guy who made the video and I don't think the offenders are limited to just the airlines he mentions. I've seen every carrier park the "incorrect" way (commuter and major). It seems to happen so much these days that even some of the controllers give block instructions now.
Not sure why it's a problem now. Until about 3 years ago everyone parked correctly in the block. No one ever had to teach me how to park in the DCA block. You just saw guys do it and it made common sense. Maybe it's because in the past few years DCA has added new carriers and more flights that we have crews passing thru that aren't familiar. Or just no one gives a crap anymore.
So with no further ado - especially for those among us that can be called TULSA (Total Utter Lack of Situational Awareness), here is the video:

BTW the guy who made the video is great guy. Even when he falls off his boat.

Even if you are number one in the block you still make the turn. First for the reason stated in the vid but also because it allows 3 jets (4 in the block of 01) to fit in the block. If you don't turn then there is only room for 2, especially the block of 19.
Again, a little common sense and situational awareness goes a long way in this business. You know, "some of that pilot sh1t".

DCA should put out a memo to all airlines on proper "block" technique, so that it can be added to manuals/Jepps.
I can understand where some pilots might be nervous about spinning planes so close to each other on their own, when they cant even pull straight into a gate without three marshallers. But, it sure is annoying to be behind someone blasting the side of your aircraft because I did the proper technique and they didnt.
