Perhaps I'm out of the loop as I've been out of comm for the past ten days, but when did DAL say they were intending to furlough?

I was hearing, I guess from the check airman meeting from a week or so ago that there would be some A320s to ATL because they have the range to reach the west coast and MD88s to MSP because from there they could reach west coast and the east coast. Not sure.

I dont think furlough is a concern but a reduction is what is being spoken of in a number of threads. A number of articles have been put out recently about the European bookings are dropping off big time. Fortunately the strengths that NWA brings will help offset some of the slowing markets. This will show that this is a combo that should make our combined airline stronger. The slow seasons in each others international markets will be offset. We'll see

Sorry, I should have said displacements. I didn't say DAL said anything. My point was only that this thread rumor stuff is all over the place.

All of the reductions are just talk. Nothing official. Yet. If the numbers do not improve, that is when you will see some international pull down. I am sure that many if not all of those airframes will be redeployed.
From what I can tell there will be hiring one way or another.
Like I have said repeatedly, Talk of furloughs at DAL/NWA is quite premature.
On the 320's et al. It will be very hard to get any new jets. If you have followed Airbus's order book. They have overbooked their max production by at least 40 jets. This was done assuming there would be cnxed order. If we get any if will be because DAL purchased production slots, or bought used.
Lots of things are up in the air right now. That is not a good thing or a bad thing. What is going on is deciding if we are going to commit to the 09 summer schedule or tweak it. There are many factors that indicate that summer traffic will be back up. We may decide not to go for fourth and long, but we are looking at the options. Nothing too loose sleep over, yet...
