Have to agree with you, looks 'strange'.
Said it earlier in another thread......With this new gitty-up, all they have to do is put a coat of "White" base paint over the existing Continental lettering, and add United....there you have it.
Doing this to only "half" the fleet maybe 'cheaper' then taking the alternative and coming up with a new/classy scheme and redoing the ENTIRE FLEET. True 'cost cutting' outta the gate??
Just a guess.....not impressed.

There is something ugly about the lettering for United.
Maybe I'm just used to seeing the words Continental there which looks good in that font and length.
What year did the CAL paint scheme come out? Early 90s?

I wouldn't call the whole thing ugly. After all, all they did was change the name on the side. Still there's something very odd about it. Maybe its just the fact that it's "United" on the side instead of "Continental." That's been Continental's paint scheme for nearly 20 years now and its weird seeing it now with United on the side. And I agree they should change the font, it doesn't look right as it is.
I think they should have just kept the Continental name. If you read the comments on the articles that are out about this, there are quite a few people saying as much, and saying that they didn't like United but liked Continental (or at least found CAL tolerable). The United name has been tarnished pretty good over the last 10 years.

Opinion
Like the tail logo. Not the font. Prefer the blue underside of United.
I guess they could save money just changing the UAL tails and the CAL lettering.
Merging corporate IDs is nicer than erasing all signs of it, like, um, I dont know...DELTA?!
