I'd imagine like everyone before him(except me apparently), once he made it out of the regionals, he stopped caring about this board.

I presume that's why they're hiring 20 street CA's right now.

They are still running regular FO classes.

I seem to see this claimed increasingly at regionals. What is the rationale? Are captain reserve times too long and frightening people into not upgrading until they are senior enough to hold a line, or what? Even if you were simply killing time waiting for a flow one would think you’d want to take the first opportunity for the raise if for no other reason. For everyone without a flow, TPIC is sort of what it’s all about.

I don’t get it.

People used to upgrade after 1500-3000hrs of 121. Now 950 for everyone and anyone is all it takes. A lot simply don't feel comfortable sitting in the left seat at 950hrs (121) and rightfully shouldn't be forced.

TPIC isn’t worth all it’s cracked up to be. And Reserve sucks and a lot of Mesa pilots commute, commuting to reserve to sit in the right seat half the month for probably less than 50tpic a month sounds terrible. Our FOs are seeing the same captains not getting picked up by legacies since they’ve been here they know it’s not a golden ticket. If you commute wait till you can hold a line it’s seriously not worth it.

I’ll admit commuting to reserve sucks, but the above I have to disagree with. You have no way of knowing how many training failures, mishaps, DUIs, FAA violations, or other things a senior captain might have that is inhibiting his/her progression to a major. Assuming TPIC doesn’t matter just because some guys who have it haven’t been picked up seems sort of questionable to me.
Just my 2 centavos worth.

It’s no joke that the quality of new hires is not what it once was. There’s a high failure rate in upgrade. I think this contributes to people waiting to have more experience before upgrade. 2000 seems to be the magic number. That said - FO are being picked up by LCC and cargo. Most seniority movement is FO leaving.

TPIC not worth anything? Maybe if you go to an airline where other pilots don't hire you. If you're stuck at Mesa, you may want to rethink the value in TPIC.
