What is the deal with 950 SIC? Does that mean one could have 950 121 SIC time on day 1 of upgrade course?

Probably yes and you get the rest on IOE

Most seniority movement is FO leaving.
If “most seniority movement is FO leaving” that doesn’t argue that TPIC isn’t important, it argues that you’ve got a seniority gridlock of captains that the legacies won’t but hire who don’t want to give up the pay or seniority to start over at an LCC.

I thinks that’s an accurate assessment.

I'm not positive, but don't most majors still require 1000 TPIC?

And what's the deal with FO's getting hired by majors? Is that really happening?

LCC and cargo. I know of none going to a major.

No. Many no longer require 1000 TPIC. Just PIC, so they count the CFI time of FOs.

So does anyone know an FO that was hired by a major without 1000 TPIC?

And which majors don't require 1000 TPIC?

Frontier was definitely hiring FOs before their new contract. And they are accepting FOs in flow from TSA with two years experience. So yeah, it happens. Sort of depends on your definition of “major.”
