Default ATP Restriction

So I finally have the hours for an unrestricted. Does Mesa help you get it removed or I need to go in FSDO office? Will SIC limitations be removed also to PIC?

An ATP has requirements that haven't changed.

That's interesting. If I remember correctly the FSDO did for me at no cost.

I would take matters in my own hands and go to the local FSDO. It's not a big deal. Call, make an appointment, fill out a paper 8710 applying for an ATP and that's it. Take your logbook with you in case they want to check it to verify the times (they did with me). If you have SIC only type ratings those will remain SIC only, as the type ratings are not tied to your level of certificate. i.e. in theory, you could have a 747-4 PIC type and a private pilot license only.

Edit: I thing things have changed since I got mine removed. I keep hearing people talking about some 25 hours under the supervision of a PIC in type... so...

There’s an SIC type rating.

There’s an ATP phrase that says “subject to PIC limitations”. That can be removed after you have 25 under supervision - they use your initial IOE time record for it. It has to be removed to act as PIC. Mesa has the local FSDO come in and do it when you upgrade. There are specifics in your time reporting and how you fill out the 8710 that Mesa will guide you through at upgrade. Local FSDOs May have an issue understanding what you want done but they can do it. I’ve heard of issues getting smaller FSDOs to do it correctly.

I'm not sure if the FAA still accepts paper 8710 applications. The IACRA online tool should have an application process for ATP???

We are already the lowest paid pilots in the regionals. They can’t even remove a restriction without charging?!

I wasn’t charged.

You have to use a paper 8710 because limitation removal isn’t supported in IACRA.
