Not about the stock, but just got off the phone with a Mesa friend who was hired in August of 2007 who got his furlough notice yesterday for January 2010. I feel horrible, he is a great guy and a great pilot who just got caught in a bad situation.

This industry sucks, I understand United furloughs go back as far as 1999.

Does that include the 250+ furloughs they just announced?

True. But I'm September of 2007, and I'm pretty positive if I get furloughed, it's going to go deep. In fact, I have always been under the assumption if I lose my job it's either because of 1 of 2 things:

1. I called in sick too many times and they fire my butt....

or 2. The company just tanks.

I'm under the impression number 2 might happen. If Mesa is still around, I can see us with 4-600 pilots perhaps. But you're right - it's a couple of months away, and a lot can change. I'm not gettin too worried about it now. If it happens, it happens.

Did the company say anything about bankruptcy? Or how many pilots they expect to have after the furloughs are done?

The handwriting for furloughs was on the wall when they canned Jorn and brought in Foley. I sat thru Foley's smoke and mirrors presentation when I was on a long sit in ORD and it was quite the show.

IMHO Foley wants to take the airline down to 700 pilots, and keep it there. JO has always said he's got a "pile of resumes" on his desk and he doesn't care about the men and women who actually earn the money for the company.

It's sad, but we live at the mercy of the folks who don't care about us or our careers. C'est la vie.
