I believe he should stay unless he's incredibly unhappy. He worries that he is on the cusp of the cut off for upgrades at Mesa as a late spring/early summer hire. He doesn't want to be stuck in the right seat struggling to make more than $29 an hour. I've told him there is no guarantee that he'll make the cut off for the quick upgrade at Compass either though, although he counters that by pointing out that even if he doesn't, he'll make a lot more in the right seat there than he would at Mesa.
He's right, even if he doesn't upgrade faster than at Mesa, he'll be able to make alot more money. Not to mention the opportunities within Compass are huge compared to other regionals. Fresh off Probation new hires have recently been hired as sim instructors. With a January class date though he will absolutely be able to upgrade in a year.

Believe me you don't want to go to a mainline interview explaining why you worked at 3 different airlines.

Define a lot? There isn't a regional that pays "a lot" by my definition. The best paying regional is the one that gets you to the majors the fastest. Period.

Someone else also brought up the idea of having to explain in an interview why you were hopping airlines at the regional level. One could assume that the same person might do the same thing at the majors (the grass is always greener...).

Here I am thinking of leaving GoJet (less than a year) for Mesa (E175 class)... Any insight since we're on the topic of lateral movement?

Well that's ok, they can build their resume a little more until they upgrade in the next couple months then get out. What are you gonna do? Sit here and continue to be angry because things are actually happening at other carriers? What's your deal anyways? You can PM me if you want tell me what your true problem is with my posts but I know you won't.

You have no idea what it's like here or how well run our training department or the quality of the instructors. Don't forget those new instructors are here after being 7-8 year fos somewhere else and have lots of 121 experience as well as previous instructing experience. Go away
