I heard something similar that after CAE installed the new Sim they gave Mesa the first shot at Sim time which they turned down.

As best I recall, I think the sim was priced at $15mil, which was roughly half of its cost when it was new. Managements biggest concern, according to those I spoke with, was underutilization in that Mesa would be stuck with a lot of open sim time, for which, they would not be able to find other renters. The unanimous consensus was that such would never remotely be the case, and I have to agree. CRJ sim time, particularly for sims located in North America, will continue to be an issue.

This latest claim, if true, that Mesa has and continues to be letting bought and paid for sim time go unused is totally baffling.
There is a surplus of CRJ sim time available in the marketplace. There is a severe shortage of Ejet sim time available. With turnover and loss of pilots, they need to figure out the Ejet side soon. Because of severe unstacking, I am now getting close to jumping ship myself even though I am based close to home. I am just getting worn out.

It’s funny how things never change at Mesa. I’ve been away long enough to not be in the loop on anything, yet I still can guess accurately exactly what’s going on...
After you all leave to bigger and better things, you’ll see for yourself.
Not enough instructors? Why aren’t you guys fighting to add that to your resume? Oh, maybe because they do have enough instructors?

If you look at that sim it has a LR N number. It was actually built for us to.

Sorry to hear that. I became a lama a short while back after seeing what I felt were unmistakeable signs of a sinking ship. Mesa is hemorrhaging a lot of great personnel and that is the one thing that a company, any company, almost never survives. In the past it was the “old guard”, the senior pilots if you will, who were able to bring the company through bankruptcies and other hard times. JO loves to take credit for ‘saving the company’ but the reality is that it was the dedication and carrying of the company on their backs that helped it survive. JOs only responsibility was for causing each predicament. My fear is that those types are mostly gone now. And, as things continue to worsen so will the attrition as a little more desperation sets in. What is so alarming is that management STILL seems focused on fixing the attrition problem solely with hiring. That worked fine for them for decades but it doesn’t anymore in this (qualifiable) pilot shortage. You can’t maintain an operational level simply by trying to replace ten 8-year pilots with ten new hires. You just can’t. THIS is what they don’t seem to understand, and this will be what ultimately leads to their downfall if they don’t change it up.

Why defend the indefensible? He said that SIMs were also scheduled without instructors. We don’t have many “flunk out”.... most just quit out of frustration with incompetent management.

At what stages? 15 is a pretty large Ejet class. My class had no one flunk out, only 2 quit because they failed some of the training and became either indignant or resigned.

Everyone thinks they are “Top Gun” in aviation until they get their ass handed to them. The good ones take it as a lesson learned and make sure it never happens again. The bad ones throw hissy fits. Aviation has humbled me every time my ego got too big for its own good.
