What makes up recency?
Can anyone recommend a good resource for determining what type of hours are good for recency when applying to majors? I know simulator time doesn't count for total time (with a few exceptions), but does it count towards recency? What about military "other" time?

Sim time generally does not count. There are two types of recency...
Hard recency minimums: If you don't have X hours within Y months, you're not eligible. They usually don't specify what type of hours, other than in an aircraft. They might specify airplane vice RW.
Soft mins: This is more subjective, and will be considered with an eye towards "trainability". Sim time generally does not count but if your airplane recency was all in a cessna, then some jet sim time might mitigate that.
Generally, preferred recency for majors is professional turbine time, then professional piston time, lastly would be GA CFI or recreational flying.
I don't think "other" counts but not sure. It might be a mitigating factor.

A few applications I've seen recently simply state "Recent flight experience in the last 12 months" followed by a blank. In that situation i can definitely see leaving out simulator time. I'm just wondering if any of the former military guys here included all of the their time in an aircraft when they filled in those blanks (to include other) or just their primary/secondary time. I am also curious if individuals put their CTP/ATP hours in that block.
I will happily put whatever the accepted standard is, I just don't want there to be a question if I am lucky enough to get an interview, or denied an interview because my flight hours needed correcting.
