No other leave requires you to take mortar and rocket fire and the occasional long range sniper harassment fire while evacuating idiots from an embassy that should have been evacuated six months ago either, so there is that…

Sure. But it's not private employer's responsibility to pay bonuses for combat. And it would not be limited those who actually took enemy fire either..how many more paychecks does a CONUS HQ staffer need in addition to his mil pay, zip code BAH, misc allowances, and per diem

If more bonuses and tax credits are needed, that's on .gov

Trying to milk the private sector in an arbitrary manner just generates hate & discontent, and erodes the political shield that protects reservists.

And I’d even agree with that - yet another reason that Congress ought to write specific and unambiguous laws whose DEFINITIONS everybody can understand whether or not they actually agree with them.

Congress has gotten too damn sloppy.

The idea that a company owes employees wages while out on military duty is disgusting. Military members join the grifter class. No thanks.

Again, Congress needs to write laws that are unambiguous. Except I don’t think the courts and lawyers even want them to do that. Even a Y chromosome apparently isn’t as unambiguous as it once was.

Mil members are human, and humans lean self-dealing. This is nothing scale-wise; the VA disability payment system is 10x worse on the "you're a sucker if you don't partake" front.

The VA disability system may be more subscribed to, but offering dual pay for mil leave doesn’t even come close on a compensation level.

As someone that has served, this has always bugged me, since some MOSs are in the line of combat, where others, like some support specialty, would never be in those circumstances. Even some of those that are technically "combat", but definitely many of the ones that are not. The "you put your life on the line" ends up being a pretty wide cast net, with many never even getting close to that and the statistical probability being near zero based on their role. Of course, then you probably couldn't find people to fulfil these jobs if they didn't get the same benefits...but it's always bugged me to cast them all in the same light...because they aren't.

Pointy-end people don't do it for the money, never have. They might have any of several other motivations, but not short-term money. Maybe long-term opportunities (ex tacair => airlines).
