FY08 Force Shaping
Anyone heard any news on the FY08 force shaping programs, such as VSP?? I missed the boat last year! I know they are going to announce them this month (July), but I wanted to see if anyone heard anything. Thanks.

Any rumors on other rated AFSC's? Specifically, I'm a 2003 11R hoping and praying my year group will be overmanned. They have been denying many of the early seperation requests in my group lately, so I'm also wary of that.
Anyone heard of that happening to other guys? Any advice if that is the situation? I really want to get my master's full time and deploying to OIF/OEF constantly does not exactly further that effort.
Thanks for the words!

Although the program has yet to be released, I think it's a safe bet that no ACC pilots will be released. Possibly some 11R's, but for the rest of us good luck. With alpha assignments, TAMI-21 and all of the normal bull**** with ACC/AFPC, don't hold your breath. Here's a little personal info...was awarded a T-38C assignment to XL late last fall, 15 Apr PIT date this year...slot yanked 15 Mar by AFPC. Fast forward 3 months, instead of getting another white jet, or getting to stay in my squadron and deploy again, I got ALO'd. Nothing makes sense to me any more. Don't worry guys in my year group...you can have my bonus. I wouldn't take it if it went to $100K/yr!

Fortunately, with respect to early seperation, TAMI-21, ALO, and ALPHA shinanigans do not apply to me. In fact, it takes an act of God to even get a white jet. Basically, dudes stay here for AT LEAST 4, usually 5, and sometimes 6 years. We have had a handful of guys get out with VSP, but guys lately that have tried to apply were denied.
I'm hoping when/if I apply they will realize that my seperation date would be over a year from now, and thus allow AFPC a year to absorb my loss. It's not that hard to train up a pipeliner to pull the gear and hold pre-contact.

Hmm, you guys with VSP, I'm a Marine, no chance at VSP at all. Last years Major's board had an in-zone window of 12 months worth of Captains, this years board has been announced and the in-zone window is now 22 months worth of Captains. They apparently have been losing so many dudes so far this year that they need to promote almost double the guys to Major this year as they did last year. Short of smoking some pot or smoking something else, I'm not sure what I can do to deliberately get passed over so I can get the golden handshake on the way out the door. I'm not sure what you Air Force guys are getting for VSP, but the involuntary sep pay would be worth about $70,000 to me, if I can get it, with a 3 year obligation to the IRR if I qualify and accept it. Can't tell you how many buds I have who were already selected and are walking anyhow empty handed.

When does your ADSC expire?
Sigtauenus, are alot of dudes you know getting involuntarily separated? I figured retention in the Army and in the Marine Corps was horrible. Do you know many pilots that are hitting the high road?
VSP, RIF, TAMI-21, 365 TDYs to Iraqi and Afghani UPT, all the while the commercial airlines are hiring like crazy. It is 1999 all over again. Next up...STOP LOSS!

No, not really. I think the promotion rate to Major overall is like 90%, and supposedly they don't look at MOS, ie a higher percentage of pilots.
Actually, the past couple years we've been doing ok. Actually turning away guys who wanted to reenlist. This past year it finally caught up with us and manpower totally underestimated how many guys were going to jump ship, and that is both officer and enlisted, across the board.
The guys I know getting out have already been selected for Major, and are leaving anyhow. No VPS, no involuntary sep, just walking out the door empty handed. Of course, most have they've already "logged" 2 years+ in Iraq by now and are getting a wee bit tired of it.
