FAA asking for my VA......
Hello all and thanks in advance for the help.
I received a letter from the FAA asking for my "Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Summary of Benefits Rating Sheet" on my latest continuation approval for my Special Issuance Medical.
Does anyone know what this specific item is?
For background, I've already reported all my VA disability info to the FAA. They have my entire VA and military medical records which i submitted when i reported all my VA disabilites back in 2018 when the VA approved them. I have Special Issuance Authorization for my First Class Medical for several of these items which was issued several years ago, and updated every 6 months.
On the VA portal, there is no item titled "Veteran’s Affairs (VA) Summary of Benefits Rating Sheet". There is a "Summary of Benefits" letter which I downloaded, but it does not have much info other than overall rating, date of disablity, retirement status, etc. Bottom line, I'm not sure this is what the VA is after, or why. Especially since they already have my entire VA record, and all my VA decision letters which include every item claimed and approved. I've got a call into AMAS, but they are closed for the holidays.
Anyone have info or similar circumstance that can shed some light.
Thanks in advance!

Doesn't sound like the same, but the dragnet is still out:
Letters of Investigation for VA benefits

Not everything in those threads is relevant, and some of it is garbage, but sift through because there is relevant and useful information germane to your question. I'd do more, but am on the road with little time at the moment.

I don't have it with me, but IIRC I do have a benefits award letter with a table which lists the conditions and ratings.
I'd just send them that. Then call AMAS when they open and verify that's what they want. It's probably just sloppy terminology.
Sine you've reported everything in detail, you shouldn't have to worry about the ongoing dragnet. I'd assume this is just for SI renewal... occasionaly the FAA medical folks will revisit PRNC issues when their policies (or personalities) change.

Call your union medical or military people and they can explain.
Even though you have been truthful and already shared everything, you have to do it again.
You might even get threatening letters from the FAA, going right up to the point of accussations of fraud and then backing off slightly if you send them the same paperwork you have already sent them.
You will eventually be cleared.

I’m pretty sure they want the expanded disability award letter… mine was 20 pages long… it includes info on the disability, %, date awarded, and a paragraph below it of what the disability entails (mobility, etc) and what would additional medical issues needed to get the next higher disability %.

it was mailed to me after the disability award was finalized after retirement. Call the VA and ask for it… ask how many pages for yours…. If it’s 4-5 it’s just the summary and they have the wrong version. When I received my supplemental award years later for tinnitus they sent me the short summary… had to call them to get the 20+ page version. My AME asked for it last year… said FAA is cracking down.
The bottom line is don’t freak out… get the letter from VA and send it in by the deadline from the FAA… if waiting on letter from VA they’ll give you a 30 day extension. They are targeting folks who have PTSD ratings, brain trauma, and sleep apnea issues who don’t claim it on their MedExpress and to their AMEs.

He's not being targeted for failure to list his benefits or disabilities. He's already stated that he's declared everything and has provided the FAA with a full copy of his records. Most likely this is a case review, and the FAA is within their right to request the records. It's still best to give a call to AMAS first.
