I really enjoyed night landings, at least when CILS was working. Not night cats though...you can have 'em!

Pilots from other organizations have landed "strange aircraft" on carriers.

Default Night Landings

Seriously, you can't spot the deck if you can't see it. Plus "On and on at 3/4 mile" is a good start, right? I stayed inside until I couldn't stand it except to peek at laser lineup...I never tried autos at the boat either, it seemed at lettle sketch during FCLP's but some of the older guys said it worked great if you kept stirring the pot

No autos at night became an emergency!! The legacy hornet autos work like a champ, I have heard the Super is a bit slow to keep up. I'm with you Whistle, I didnt look outside at night til just about crossing the ramp. Funny, the ace still came up and got me now and then!

I enjoyed night traps, lots of gouge all the way down (assuming it worked) and much easier to get a good start than during the day. Of course, E-2 guys only get a day trap about every other week so I was a lot more proficient at night.

Night cat shots suuuuuck!

As a USMC Prowler dude, I luckily only had to do my FRS 10 day and 6 night traps. I love my Navy bros, but you can keep your night boat ops.
(In the fleet, I did get to go to LSO school, best deal in the Navy/USMC!)

What, prop guys don't get vertigo getting launched off the cat at night? Sure, we don't look as cool or feel as cool but getting vertigo was certainly a possibility . If you got it, hopefully the guy next to you didn't. CAT 4 shots of the Connie at night were always fun (sarcasm).
