Default Mil competency

Quick question,

I did not do the mil competency paperwork after UPT (idiot). It's been about 6 years and I've only been flying the F-16 since. If I do the paperwork now, I assume I won't be able to get my multi rating add-on. Is this true? If it is, I assume I need to do a full-up multi training program on the civilain side...

Thanks

Mike,

I "think" it has to be within a year for you to get the multi add on. That was the case for me to get my single engine. It will depend on what the local FSDO says about it. Your civ options are to go to ALLATPS and pay around $2500 to get your multi, comm, ATP in a piper or go to Higher Power, CPT, FTI and pony up between $5K-8K for your ATP plus 737 type rating. If you are eligble for the GI bill, then I would go the ATP+737 route, it will only cost you 40% of the above costs. The type rating will help when applying for majors jobs. Good luck to you...

Thanks DT,

I'm not quite there as far as hours for the ATP yet and will be doing the UAV thing next. I'm looking to do some ME CFI flying and need to see what this whole mil competency will give me. From what I've seen, if I don't get the multi w/ the mil competency I'll have to shell out some bucks and get the "add-on." Oh well...

Thanks again!

As best I can see from FAR 61.73, as long as you have been actively flying w/in the past 12 months, you can take the Military Competence version of the commercial test and get an appropriate license.

Downside is that I think it would wind up being a single engine commercial for you, but, once you have that, should be relatively easy to get the multi-engine ATP topoff....or, in reading from 61.153, seems as if you can go straight to the ATP with an ATP written and Practical. Any of the ATP schools should be able to steer you to the correct path if I am in error.

I had this same issue, never got my multi comp when I got my wings, then got my mil comp when I was a T-6 instructor. I shopped around and it was cheaper to get my ATP/Multi end add on, then to get a Multi Commercial straight up. I did not use All ATPs but I paid the same as they charge.
