Don't doubt that. I've never asked them myself. I do hang around the lawyers here at my current base and I know that they have recently been involved in telling an apartment complex that if they keep up a certain practice that they would be letting base housing know of the practice. They can't **officially** blackball anyone; but they can advise that certain places have had complaints against them. Of course they also say that in the end - it is up to the service member to now what they are getting into.

Anything on the community in general would also be great. Thanks

You SHOULD be excited. An air force officer, a new pilot, a C-17, TRAVIS (one of the best locations/bases in the AF) and a wife who is a nurse. Reminds me of ME when I was your age.
You have a great assignment at a great base in a great area. As long as you maintain your residency in Texas (assuming you are in Del Rio) If you are there, establish TX residency and keep it throughout AF career.
I wrote a long letter about all your questions about Travis, but when I hit "refresh" because laptop locked up---my post disappeared. Bummer. If you have any questions, PM me and I'll let you know.

PS You can find ANYTHING in the area and I mean ANYTHING; including many things that will get you kicked out!!!!!

Thanks for all the input...it's been helpful. I know we will have a great time. I'm probably getting ahead of myself since I don't even have orders yet. Like anything I guess I am "Hurrying up to wait and see".

XL - congrats on your assignment. To bad you're gonna fly for the dark side

I'm from the area and the wife and I moved back from Andrews and knowing that I'd be out on the road a lot I didn't mind having a long commute so that the wife could work where she wanted to. We live in Sac and it takes me roughly 50 min to get from door-to-door.

Sac is great, the Bay Area is great, Vacaville is okay, and I wouldn't live in Fairfield. Get that permissive TDY and come check out the area. I have some good friends in the 21st so if you need some specific help PM me and I can get you some names from the SQ.

Again, congrats!

I have been at Travis for 2 years, both on Active duty (21st) and in the reserves. Have also lived in Walnut Creek and down in the Bay area so if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
