Military Instructor --> CFI/CFII/MEI (MCI)
Anyone hear more news regarding the availability of the MCI exam? Sheppard Air's website indicates the test will be offered no later than Oct. 20, just wondering if anyone has spoken with FSDOs/CATs or whoever else may lend comment as to whether or not the exam will be offered earlier than the 20th.
I purchased the MCI computer prep from Sheppard and am completely happy with their product (first time user, and in no way affiliated). Test bank ends up being around 1500+/- questions, but once the exam is offered for a few months, Sheppard may be able to narrrow it down a bit.
I plan on taking the exam on or around Oct. 20 for anyone who's interested in the details of the exam or how the paperwork/conversion works out.

There's a thread already running on this subject:

MODS: why are only 2 pages showing for the Miliatry section?

No news other than what's on the Sheppard Air website. I'm looking forward to the 20th and hearing how things go. I haven't started studying yet but plan to soon. I was hoping for less than 1500 questions though!

For those interested the MCI became available yesterday (20OCT09). I took it after studying the Sheppard Air software.
From the 125 questions, 0 referenced figures. I also did not receive a single question from the following Sheppard categories: Aerodynamics, Engines, Weight and Balance, Weather, or IFR/NAV.
None of the questions used charts, figures, referenced instruments or required math or an E6B. The majority of the questions came from FOI definitions, Perception, Student Evaluation, FOI General, FARs, and General topics.
I talked with Sheppard Air and they said my experience was similar to other feedback they've received and that their software will adjust accordingly.
Good luck.

Congrats Cubdrick and thanks for the info. I've been studying for a few days now and am very happy to see the question bank go from over 1500 to under 900. I was just getting ready to start reviewing the Weight and Balance/Performance problems. Glad don't have to now Maybe I'll sit tight for a few days and see if they can reduce the database some more...

I took the test today and the Sheppard Air prep was right on. They have the question bank down to less than 600 questions now so it's not nearly as bad as when I first started studying. It's pretty straight forward and not too much of a pain to get through. Glad I didn't have to use a Whiz Wheel for anything

For those thinking of pursuing this certificate option, I just finished met with the FSDO inspector today and the entire process took less than 10 minutes of paperwork review. I walked away with a CFI with Instrument and MEL ratings.
Based on my IP experience in EA-6Bs and F/A-18E/F/G, I DID NOT qualify for a CFI-SEL engine. Prowlers are considered CL-thrust, so I hoped to work that angle into a SEL rating to no avail. Hornet guys, if you're Super or big engine you meet the criteria to drop the CL-thrust restriction on the MEI.
If anyone has better luck getting the CFI-SEL w/o IP experience in a true SEL airplane please chime in with the way you presented your argument.

I did my CFI/II the hard way but plan on using the new rules to obtain my MEI when I get back to the states. The way I understand it I will not have to take any more tests but just take my supporting multi-engine IP documentation to the FSDO and walk away with my ticket in hand.
Can anyone confirm my interpretation of the new rules?

Cubdrick, what paperwork did you use to show you were an 18E/F/G IP? I don't recall getting anything (maybe orders or fitreps?) that said I was an IP. In the VTs we have a letter in our jacket showing we are, don't think the RAG did that.
Thanks, Rhinoflyer
