Your are correct on the 6 months. I was told get out ASAP and the ART job will be waiting for you. Now it looks like i'll have at least a few week gap based on the DOS I got approved. I guess i can just do TPs until the ART job starts.

AFRC will not currently entertain any application from someone who is collecting retirement. Asked that question myself just last week. Gen Stenner himself is very much against it according to AFRC personnel mgmt.
HOWEVER, AFRC will be up against a lot of manning pressure over the next couple of years and others in the command are pushing for it.

That's what I've been told as well. That's why I am making the jump to the reserves now. I don't want to be unemployed hoping the airlines are hiring in 7 years after 20 yrs on active duty. Plus, with the airlilne industry the way it is now, no way i would try to fly for one without a reserve job to fall back on.

For those that are interested or in a similar situation: AFMAN 36-203, AFRC Sup I, para. 1.11.1.3 states that with prior approval of HQ AFRC/ A1CSA, we can appoint someone to the civilian (Part A) side of the ART job while waiting for appointment to the military (Part B) side.
Therefore, it is possible to be an ART while on terminal leave with active duty. You just have to sign a memo stating you will be seperated from the civilian position if you cannot fulfill the military requirments (that begin after your date of seperation).
