Any former F-111 pilots here?

Not a -111 driver but would love to fly one. This whole thing with the 2018 bomber getting cancelled and the Buffs being irrelevant outside of dropping iron over hajis on camels with nothing bigger than a peashooter, has FB-111 written all over it. After reading the specs they want for the "gap-fill" bomber prior to the 2037 "big push" next-Gen bomber, you end up essentially with a -111. I don't think they've ever brought back an airframe from the 'yard, so this is all a pipedream. Cool bird nonetheless.

The 111 was the first jet I maintained. I worked the FB's at Plattsburgh and then went onto the EF's and 111E's at Upper Heyford. Loved the jet.

2 things I never wanted to do in my AF career, work on the 111 and get stationed at Mountain Home. Worked the 111 at my first and second base and I actually volunteered to move to Mountain Home.

I'm not a former 111 guy, but funny that you should mention them...I was just at Hickam AFB (Honolulu Int'l) and parked my C-17 near an AUSTRALIAN Air Force F-111. I hadn't seen one in years and thought it was a true blast from the past. The crew bus driver told me that it's wingman had left and that plane remained with an mx problem. Yep, it's a pretty cool looking bird, especially with its wings swept!

Yep...about 12 years and 3300+ hours in 'em. Cannon, the Goat, and P-burgh. In 40 years of flying, the Vark was the finest bird I ever flew.

I saw them taking off from my house about a week ago. I didn't believe my eyes when I saw them at first, taking off from 8R. Hope you enjoyed your stay in Honolulu.
