Also used for special operations.

Civilians tend to get weirded out by this, but if you're going in harms way and sleep is not in the program the possible side effects pale in comparison to risk of getting shot or otherwise killed due to lack of alertness.

During the Cuban Crisis B-52 crewmembers on Chrome Dome Airborne Nuclear Alert missions (24 hours, thirty five minutes) were issued "go" pills to take at the half way point. Most saved then for after they landed.

Moderation in everything, but they do enhance certain experiences.

If you have to swing an ax for 48 hours....

I get the purpose of amphetamines to keep pilots alert, but why were the docs prescribing crack and marijuana to so many O-4s and above? Drug use is the only possible explanation for many of the decisions I saw.

Did they make it just for the purpose you outlined above? I'm just curious, because wasn't there an incident a few years back in Afghanistan where the "go pills" issue was involved in a friendly fire incident?

Not making a case either way, I just remember it being mentioned quite frequently.

When my dad was in Viet Nam they would take them before going out on patrol. He said the crash was pretty traumatic when you came down off of them. Wasn't uncommon for him to sleep in excess of 24 hours afterwards.

Huh??? MJ cannot be prescribed by federal officials, it's not a legal drug per the Fed.

Maybe this happened in the 40th ID

I just spit coffee out of my nose. Shack!

I thought the go-pills were kind of anti-climatic. I thought I'd be running around like a cracked out monkey. The slow-pills... those are awesome. But yes, we still use go/slow pills. It's entirely voluntary and there is a trial period as was mentioned for side effects. I always kept the go pills with me, but only used one once and that was on a 6 hour flight that turned into 12... and I had a 2am night trap at the end of it. The worst part was we missed 'rats.

Don't know if they were "involved" or not, but if you end up on night CAP all the time, I think they can issue them just to help you stay awake/alert.

Note that I'm not a fighter guy, just stuff I've heard from buds who were.
