Though not all that much a fan of the Harrier (for the USMC), I'll agree with this. I was actually wondering if you had thought that the Harrier was the colossal mistake for the Brits; which I do not believe.

Don't let logic get in the way of politics. The USS Enterprise and it's air wing were in the vicinity when Odyssey Dawn kicked off, this is the type of operation carriers and their air wing were built for. It's the whole reason for carriers. Instead it was an inefficient hodge podge of every service protecting their rice bowl to get their piece and the Big E was told to pound sand.

To be fair Grumble, like it or not, there was a conscious decision made to not employ a CVN/CVW in that conflict, and I'll leave it at that. My point was it wasn't necessarily about services lobbying for their own. Certainly there were bits and pieces of that, but not entirely.
