Sequestration effects
#1
Any folks out there heard any theories of sequestration cuts? I'm wondering if any involve the previously floated trial balloons with regard to retirement plans and healthcare. The last news I've seen said that personnel cuts would not happen so it would be a program/budget cut option. Hearing from the House armed svcs supposedly today...interesting times.

I can tell you that McCain, Graham and Ayotte came through Ft Bragg this week and said that sequestration would decimate the Fayetteville economy.
If you are a reservist or guardsman as I know there are many on here, you can bet that it will mean you are just completely cut loose for a long time if it happens.
What happened last year in October when the AF Reserves shut down and cancelled UTAs would just be a start.
Bad news but I would be interested if anyone sees some actual proposals that they could post.

yep...thinking something along those lines will definitely happen. the guard will still get some funding via states etc. the reserves and all the flexible use mil options will be shelved...sorta kinda not personnel cuts...just underutilization maybe.

Rest assured that when they cut reservists they will fall back on the old
"one weekend a month, two weeks a year" line that always gets pulled out in these times, and the ARTs will all tell us that this isn't a jobs program...and the military can pretend there were no personnel cuts...
Until the next inspection or ORI is coming down the pike, and they are trying to make everything mandatory.
I am going to try to use the one weekend a month line then...

According to this, my weekend a month two weeks a year could be a weekend a month two MONTHS a year...

Well, think of this job as seasonal. Skinny at the beginning, fat the end. It's always feast and famine. Schedule for a lot of fat at the end o' FY. Or you could freak out and run around to end up in the same place. Trying times for sure. There's always quitting. I've stopped worrying about it. We will all do what's best for our families. Good luck to all of us.

Yep...saw this. Interesting direction but I wonder if it will ever happen. I'm sure the employers are really gonna love this!

There is serious discussion at the pentagon about relying more, not less, on the reserves as defense cuts get into the bone.
You might see some initial silliness with drills being canx the first year, but ultimately it's cheaper to use reserves for many missions especially those involving deployment. They don't have to pay us to hang around the drome between deployments...
