Airline to military
#11
Its definitely possible. I have a couple friends who have done it (and have their slots waiting for them at their airline hehe).
I'm trying to get into the guard too, although I'm not an airline pilot. From what I understand, the guard really likes to hire people with flight time, but time above about the first 200 hours and an instrument rating doesn't give you any extra points. So having 1000's of hours won't really give you an advantage over someone with a wet instrument or commercial ticket. I've been told lots of flight time doesn't hurt like it does in other branches (the Navy told me I had too much fixed wing time to fly a plane for them when I looked into joining them with about 600 hours . ) As other people say, they are hiring the person more than what is on paper.
Also, I was told by people at several different units that Air Force is no longer giving out age waivers. They recently raised the max age from 27 to 30, and took away the option of waivers for anything above that.

I do agree with the poster who said earlier that the best amount -vs- cost (if paying for your flying) is a PPL w/instrument rating; maybe some aerobatics too for exposure.
