With all the budget cuts how has it affected bumming in the Guard\Reserve for the heavy guys?

So far it hasn't been too bad. When sequestration started we lost all our flying hours, but they changed the rules so our ground AFTP's are just as valuable as flying ones. Most TDY's are cancelling, but within 24 hours of start date you still get paid so thats about 50/50. All that said, the war still needs logistical support so if you are willing to deploy you will eat... for now.

Ouch, it sounds like deployment is the only way to go. I'm sure grounding all the fighter units isn't helping the tanker guys unless their next to a FTU. What the other heavy guys?

Bumming has been hard for years unless your unit has an alert line. Most associate units have had no bums for years. If you own the iron, it's easier. If you have alert lines, it's even easier. If you have contacts, no family committments, and are an IP, you can make a decent living (about 50% of what an AD guy can make in a yr). If you are an LT co-pilot, the only real way to make money is deploying with another unit/AD. Just my view from where I sit...

Bumming in the Strategic Airlift world is doable. It is currently not difficult to get 20+ pay days a month via a mix of UTA/FTP/GTP and MPA trips. Caveat: You're not going make much sitting at home. Time to pack the suitcase and your A bag.

So is it easier for the Guard then the Reserve tanker units to bum since they have their own planes? Also do the tanker guys get more local flights to support FTU's and ranges?
