With 2000 TT why don't you try a place like Atlas? I came off prog tour/deployment and got picked up immediately. Better pay (similiar to that of a 1Lt), good experience. I did the rj thing before the USAF and there's no way I was going back to that. Getting some great 767 experience and going on mil leave for school tour AC upgrade this summer. I had 2,020 hours when hired FYI. I started to get scared when our orders went away last fall. Best of luck.

Go to a regional!
I did 12 years active in the 38 as an IP, Viper, and Viper IP.. Then did 2 more years guard full time.
I wanted a job as the guard was drawing back.. I got on at a regional. Man, it was awesome. I learned to fly a 121 jet, met some great people, and had a second income. It was definitely eye opening!
Now at a legacy. Life is swell.

I am in the same dilemma Squawk. I just joined a Reserve Unit, have about 2,100 TT with 1700 Multi-Engine Turbine PIC. The regionals are calling a lot, but I am able to bum at my Reserve unit right now. I want to wait it out until the Majors start hiring (hopefully soon?) but i think some 121 experience would be beneficial since none of my time is in a crew aircraft or carrying passengers.

Paok,
I applied to Atlas in March and a buddy of mine got hired who has similiar experience to me. I was hoping and cautiously expecting to get a call from them but it feels like it's luck of the draw for my app to get pulled. Any suggestions?

I think the good old days of going right from the military to the majors is behind us, unless a massive hiring wave opens up soon which I don't think it will. I think going to a regional makes sense, I am probably going to do it (interviews this and next week). I personally think having the military time and some 121 background will be the winning ticket when the majors start hiring again. JMHO.

Bum. At least wait until your upgrade to AC. Consider farming yourself out and moonlighting with AD units. That's what I used to do when the bumming was tight in my C-5 unit.
Then I'd suggest a 747 cargo outfit, before I'd go to a Regional.

I do believe I am leaning towards the overall benefits of adding 121 time to the resume. However, I will also be looking into some cargo outfits and even some ISR options, as well. Know of any cargo outfits that are currently hiring??

Considering only one of them is hiring it's easier said than done. Further, you have a higher risk of furlough.

I'm not suggesting you plan your career entirely around the long shot of getting hired at UPS or FedEx, but if you want to ever be considered for UPS, you're going to need 1000 PIC Heavy-jet, Transoceanic. That's never going to happen at the Regional.
The average age of my UPS new-hire class was 39, back in '06. There were ONLY two kinds of pilots in there: Military heavy-jet (KC-10, C-17, and C-5) and 747/MD-11 Civilian Cargo Captains. No fighter pilots.
Even if you never do leave for UPS or FedEx, a lot of the 747 Cargo guys live some really nice lives. See the World. Nothing is cooler than the -400.
