USAA vs GEICO AUTO
#11
I checked the differences a few months back...while geico had usaa beat on car insurance, no one that I called came close to the homeowners insurance that usaa gave with their multiple policy discounts. The margin was big enough (as long as I kept my usaa car insurance) that it more than made up for the premium I pay for car insurance.

I switched to Geico a few years back, but had to switch back to USAA while stationed in Germany. I immediately switched back to Geico when I got back to the States. I quit all USAA products except homeowner's insurance.

I switched from USAA to GEICO (Gov. Employee Ins Co.) in 2009 when moving from North TX to upstate NY. My rates were going to go up w/ USAA but were about half w/ GEICO ($600 vs. $300) for 2 cars every 6 months. I talked to both companies trying to see what I was missing or not getting. USAA agreed they had the same coverage for half the price. That was about the same time USAA was tripling the rates on people in FL after a bad hurricane season(s) to get them to get insured elsewhere. I haven't had to file a claim w/ either company so I can't speak to how that might differ. USAA also couldn't compete on the local mortgage market either, so we refinanced w/ a local credit union almost a point lower than USAA...

I switched from usaa to geico a while back, had some claims with no prob. You should try MetLife for a quote. They were even cheaper if your company (e.g.fedex) has a program with them. The deal fell thru when I told them I had an at fault within 5 years. Most are three. They are more picky = cheaper for those with clean records.

Switched to GEICO this past winter. They were half of what USAA was. In the first 30 days of switching to GEICO, teenage daughter found neighborhood light pole. Pole 1 car 0 (ice on road). Had a little back in forth on value of car but received an acceptable offer. Called USAA just for fun on determining values on cars and they use the same third party for determining car value. Rates have remained the same. Been happy with GEICO.
