Default Guard Guys

Still trying to understand a working definition for "guard bum", but for those of you that aren't "guard bums", what do you do when you're not flying for the guard?

Thanks

ok let me rephrase and make the question a little clearer. When you're not flying, what is your real job?

"Bumming" is when someone, who otherwise is a "traditional" member (think 1 weekend/month, 2weeks/year (plus a few extra days per month for flying currency)), flies extra. Typically this is because that member is between jobs in their civilian capacity.
So, they are not a full time member, per se, but they might seek full time orders (for a few months to a few years) or, depending on the mission of the unit, they might just fly and take as many trips as they can get their hands on.
In extreme cases, on a day that they weren't even scheduled to fly (or get paid), they might be caught hanging around the ops desk, hawking the fight for potential fallout and flying opportunities. In general terms, being a "bum".

Real job is your civilian job...usually Walmart greeter or aviation museum worker.

As a bum you manipulate your schedule to maximize pay because you typically do not have a normal civilian job. When you are not flying you volunteer to sit the scheduling desk etc. whatever the boss man wants.

Gotcha. thanks for the responses fellas. Just trying to wrap my head around the whole concept of flying part time and still having another job. Sounds like it could keep things exciting
