Using the USO?
#11
Every USO I've ever visited has a sign-in sheet with a spot to check "retired". If a local branch chooses to only serve AD folks (especially the locations with frequent rotators) or it's just very busy that day, I would totally understand. I used the USO twice in 22 years while I was still in. I don't feel too bad about stopping in now and then for a cup of joe or the wifi.

Many of the locations invite the Airport cops over to eat leftovers at the end of the day. Knowing this, I have no problem stopping in wearing the Airline monkeysuit if they're not busy with a bus-load of AD. Still try to slip out of the uniform when I can.

I have never used the USO while traveling in a civilian or other capacity than active duty. Now having seen and benefited from the work the USOs do for our active duty members overseas as a deployed reservist, I will continue to donate to the USO and only utilize them when I'm on orders or mobilized.

Same here! I am more than happy to donate quarterly to the USO nationally and my local state USO branch. They do great work! I am very thankful for the services they provided me and my fellow Marines and sailors when we were deployed many years ago. I also find it sad that professional airline employees can not afford a cup of coffee or purchase wifi in today's economy.

We're simply not in the way. Its already there, and going to be thrown out (the coffee) or given to TSA. For some reason we have so much self-loathing amongst ourselves that we think our own service doesn't count, no matter how many combat sorties we've flown. Of course, that's assuming the place is empty (which it is most of the day).

Don't tolerate such treatment. You have an AD card and belong there just as much as anybody. Flat out discrimination against Reservists, one of the reasons they stopped putting "Reserve" on the ID card to begin with.
