Guard/Reserve Better
#43
Well you guys made my decision really tough lol. I came here with the same question as the OP. I guess I'm kind of glad I was non-selected for OTS, especially since I feel pretty confident with the units I'm rushing. One other question: I know it varies with unit but whats the approximate timeline or seasoning required to acquire an AGR spot. Do you just need AC or need to be an IP as well? Thanks

Speaking from heavies, we did hire A/Cs that were considered upgradable to IPs, good sticks and good thinkers. That said, it varies on what's available--today I'm sure loads of experienced IPs including schoolhouse guys are trying to get into the reserve forces--make sit harder. In the fighter world, I pretty sure it's "IPs only".

Some possibilities on where guard/reserve is headed...
Home - National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force
Report is out

....Rotational deployments. I see people leaving if the activation increases of ANG/AFR

I like this:
42—“Up or Out”: Congress should amend restrictive
aspects of current statutes that mandate “up-or-out”
career management policies to enable the Air Force to
retain Airmen of all components actively working in
career fields where substantial investment in training
and career development has been made and where it
serves the needs of the Air Force. [Chapter 5]
