How to treat RPAs
#1
I'm in the process of filling out applications on the airlineapps website and I'm not sure what to do about my RPA flight time. I know the airlines don't give two hoots about how much time I have when not actually sitting in the airplane, but I don't want it to look like I quit flying over a year ago and haven't been doing anything since.
When it asked in the company addendum if I currently have a full time flying job I said yes and that it was in the MQ-9 since the AF believes it technically is a flying job. But I'm going to leave my MQ-9 time out of the flight time section because there aren't choices that accurately describe what kind of "aircraft" it is. Thoughts?

1. I wouldn't be fooled by your sleight of hand
2. I'd wonder what else you fudged on
That's an easy one: own it for what it is, get current somehow, and apply.

Sorry but you're not in a flying job. The USAF just calls it that to try and make you feel better. If I were hiring

Lying (or fudging) on an app is the best way to get it in the circular file. MQ-9 time is worth zero everywhere but in the USAF, which is why there's no choice for that in the flying time section of airlineapps.

Thanks for the info, I'll make those changes. I am working on getting my ATP written done and will get some flying in if it looks like the AF will let some of us out later this year. Hey, at least I'm still getting my flight pay...

Yep. Good for you. Get that ATP written and practical done. You definitely won't get a call until it's done. Best of luck.

Are guys getting away from RPAs back to their MWS? Back in the day, 1 RPA assignment got you choice of follow on. In the past 4-5 years, all the guys I've known that got an RPA have been swallowed up never to be seen from again.

Use that Flight Pay to pay for flight time somewhere.
Or you can find a reserve unit who needs pilots.

Might consider an MC-12 or BACN 179 to regain currency.

Most I know from my last squadron studied over a weekend and passed with no problems.
I tried it but had to wait an extra day because the testing facility was closed on the next Monday (holiday).
Aren't most of those weekend ATP type course just ONE day of sitting at the computer and cramming?
Now I wouldn't have liked that, BUT it has worked for many.
