None of the above. We have a CBA. The questions you ask will have to be negotiatied with FDX ALPA.
My recommendation (not yet on the MEC) would be more lines with slightly less BLG. Numbers discussed in another thread say 3000 hours less in Jan. Divide that by lines...but I dont' think you'll see 48 hour lines. The SIG will get busy.
My input (as a bystander) is that if the BLG goes down the 15/19 R day gets down sized too. No reason to sit R days for 3-4 hours...we just need fewer R days.
The silver lining to all of this should be a bit more time off--for family, military obligations, side businesses, working on college, etc etc.

I read the CBA before posting, your right it was not spelled out. Another bad deal, say you are junior and in training and can only hold the min blg. Now you are working a full month of training for 48 hours for 2-3 months? And the training was a displacement.

No sivler lining as The lines cannot Contractually pay less than:
68 hours in a 4 week month
85 hours in a 5 week month
I doubt you will see the lines values change all that mouch as they are already on the lower side of normal averages. I doubt the company will want to buy up lines to any large degree.
We certainly might see fewer Regualr lines and thus more Secondary or Reserve lines.

This line from the letter: "Additional changes in BLG levels are going to be required." indicates Albie is right. The company wants to change the current BLG mins. Hopefully the union will show some spine when it comes to negotiations and makes sure an R day doesn't go below 4.5 hours. In other words if RLG drops more than 4 hours R-days should drop from 15-19. Talk to your block rep if you think it will do some good.
Dramatically reducing carryover by moving bid start day to Sunday would also help make sure the hours are adjusted equitably.

I been through this before a couple of brand x's.
What if the company comes to the Union and says we need to furlough 400 pilots.............but we can avoid this if you agree to reduce MIN BLG by 8 hours (just an arbitrary number I pulled out).
So the Union can show some stones as you put it and say, "no thanks a contract is a contract".
So the company goes ahead and announces the furlough. How are you going to feel at that point? Be careful what you ask for.
Of course having been through this before, if the company is going to furlough they are going to furlough. They just try to gain more concessions before they actually do it.
