I know this is an old comment, but.... I get the disgust about the way some folks approach VA disability. That said, I don't think it's as black and white as some on here suggest. I have arthritis, jacked up knees, it is what it is. The VA sends me a small amount for it, I feel zero guilt about it, nor do I understand why I would. I don't feel like I'm scamming anything or anyone. As for the FAA, again I see no conflict, I didn't lie to the VA and didn't lie to my AME/FAA.

I love waiving the VA funding fee and that is the primary reason I applied. The math Low laid out above on monthly payment is an interesting point, however I looked at the total loan amount not my monthly. That was a chunk of cash I didn't have to borrow or repay.

I would love to know where the 100/200 hours of NVG time equals x disability rumor. I was told that one so many times over the years, quite the urban legend.

It's in the same vein as the "automatic 10% for tinnitus if you work on the flight line" thing that's going around. You don't get anything without (1) claiming it and (2) being evaluated by the VA for the claimed condition.

FWIW, I receive compensation for an injury caused on the job and will affect me for the rest of my life. No guilt and no regrets. FAA has no problem with it.
