USAA Credit Cards - Reduction in Benefit

USAA Credit Cards - Reduction in Benefit
In the ongoing effort to erode benefits and services to it's members, USAA is changing Credit Card (Visa & MasterCard) benefits.
Starting Feb. 1, 2015, cardholders will note a reduction in "covered" rental vehicles and the expansion of coordinated benefits. Covered rental periods are cut in half (31 days to 15 days) and through coordinated benefits, your primary auto insurance pays first.
Further, a reduction in covered vehicles excludes coverage on All trucks & SUVs (Chevy Avalanche, GMC Envoy, and Cadillac Escalade by name!), and any rental car with an MSRP over $50K.
Look for significant changes to Price Protection and Extended Warranties. Members will also, note a 75% reduction in coverage for travel insurance from $1,000,000.00 to $250,000.00 when booking (planes, trains, ships, and autos) with the card.
The Chubb Group, which underwrites the coverage, has had a 100%+ appreciation in stock since the last time they revised consumer card coverage in addition to paying increasing quarterly dividends.
Just another good deal - thanks for your service.

USAA Credit Cards - Reduction in Benefit
USAA is nothing more than a privatized amalgamation of self appointed weenie academy bureaucrats. In my experience, they really were incompetent.

Isn't that true off all insurance companies? You don't use it until you need it, then hopefully the coverage is there?
Truth is, I actually DO rent a fair number of cars on my USAA CC and if I'm involved in an accident I want to be covered. I'd say I "use" that feature and benefit of the card every time I rent a car. With the upcoming changes, depending on the vehicle I rent, I'll have to consider buying the extra coverage, which is something I've never had to do.
USAA is diluting every aspect of their product line and is quickly becoming just another consumer option. As a 28 year USAA member, I can tell you it hasn't always been that way.

They sure as heck don't understand how airline pilots are paid, and ask for CBAs, jumpseat agreements and explanations of why you want to buy a house in one state and are based in another.
F-ing clueless.

I totally agree with you, and I 've found it surprising at times that their people, who are supposed to go through a "boot camp" to understand the military life, are also incompetent with similar issues for those on active duty. At this point, having been with USAA for 24 years, I see them as a premium service insurance, banking and investment company. If the services decline much more, I am going to take my business elsewhere. Only time will tell...

I've slowly been migrating most of my money away from USAA. Their customer service is awesome, but there are greater savings and benefits out there that one can find with a little bit of research. Example:
I switched to Geico six months ago for my auto insurance and cut my bill by nearly 50% with the exact same coverages and deductibles. We'll see how that first claim goes when it happens.
All of my cash (save a small emergency fund) is with Ally Bank. I am getting .1% APY on the USAA savings, and .95% at Ally.
Mortgages at USAA are a joke. Rates are high and the fees I've been quoted are out of control. National Bank of Kansas City is top notch. I'm about to get 3.25% on my second VA loan. I was planning to go conventional, but it turns out if you put 10% down, the funding fee is 1.25% on a second VA as opposed to 3.3% with nothing down.
Home insurance policies I was quoted for both of my recent duty locations was significantly higher with USAA than anywhere else. Initially I thought it was due to the hurricane threat at my first station. Then I moved to the middle of the country and it was still considerably higher than what Nationwide has done for me. Tornados?
The renter's insurance was actually pretty good when I rented between PCS moves. So there's your USAA crap sandwich. I'm starting the get the feeling USAA is spending a bit too much money on their ad campaigns to bring in new customers. Meanwhile the folks that have been with them for 10+ years are going elsewhere. A lot like active duty Air Force.

USAA has definitely let their exclusivity fall by the wayside. By increasing their membership #'s multiple fold, and the resultant increase in insurance claims, their competitive edge has been lost.
