^^^ everything he said. Spot on. DH who wrote my "quitter" FITREP came calling about a year later.

That FITREP made for a good laugh when I went to the reserves with my front office. They saw right through it. Where it may come back is promotion in the reserves, but hey you already quit once. Who cares? Terminal O-4 is a stress free place to live.

I've sat on two USN statutory boards; the reserve boards see that FITREP for what it is and understand it as was previously stated above. What the board then looks for is the performance before and after and in what job(s). In my experience as a recorder and voting member on boards, there is a reason a member isn't promoted(generally speaking). That said, a record is only as good as the member makes it or care to make it and how it is briefed. Good records brief themselves regardless of how its briefed to the board; avg or mediocre records or records with a glitch need to be briefed thoroughly. 99% of the board members understand that and see it, my experience tells me that departure FITREP is not the glitch.

Most (not all) USN SelRes Aviators don't understand how their records stack up against other traditional SelRes members who are doing traditional reserve jobs and how flying in a reserve hardware unit or augment unit, while good work producing for the fleet, is not viewed the same across the reserve component.
