Default Part time Jobs

I am curious to know what other jobs pilots have out there. I met one Capt who had his own winery and another who imported wines and one FO was a landlord with a couple of properties. Besides the Guard/Reserve, what do you all do with the other time you have to gain more $$$. Just wondering.

Many pilots have the time and flexibility to have an outside job...you can pretty much do anything you are qualified to do. Many jobs require previous professional experience, others can be learned on the fly (ex. real estate).

Anything technology-enabled is good, because you can do it on the road.

Let's see.. I've flown with guys who've done or owned businesses in:

Computer services (IT, repair, web design, etc)
building motorcycle choppers
Used car lots
Horse breading (sells stallions for $60k at auction)
Ranching (cattle, lamas, etc)
Tile store
General contractor
Vacation rental property
Real estate firm
Strip bar
film production company

Me, I run a pet grooming business. It just makes good sence to have something on the side. You no longer can trust this crazy industry for your long term survival.

I know 5 NW guys that own Subway(s) and my uncle drives a jet for AA and owns his own airport (88R). I day-trade quite successfully.

I do not consider myself a day trader, rather a short term investor. What are you into right now? Any tips? Looking to get some DD done on some new companies. Been in bed with the same 6-7 companies for the last couple of years.

A real estate investor would be a great side job for an airline captain. They can use the extra time to call up their tenants and fixing the problems. They also have the capital to buy new houses as well.

Owning a subway has never been a success as it has once been. Once an acknowledged franchise has been taken place, you will never reap the benefits as their past owners have once did.
