Are day one/last travel days? Or do you deadhead on your off time to be at the assigned rotation starting point?

Things may have changed in the past few years, but airplanes have typically been assigned regardless of class seniority which is DOB.

First and last days are travel and work days. Sometimes you may only travel, but typically plan on travel with a couple legs on day one and same for the last day. You'll still be home within the duty day. You never travel on an off day, either you're on duty for a work day or you're off.

There isn't a choice. The aircraft assignments are awarded by the company. One guy in my class was already flying the Phenom 300, so that's what he got. I was already flying the XLS which is what I was awarded, along with two others.
The following class was a mix of Phoenom, XLS and Sovereign. If I was a gambler I'd bet new hires have a 50% chance of going to the XLS for the forseeable future. I'm a happy camper, even with the honeywell!

I'm willing to bet newhires will also be assigned the Latitude since the fleet is growing so fast.

I realize it’s all subject to availability and needs of the company, but generally when is your airline flight out of base scheduled on day 1 of a tour?

It really varies, generally you'll start in the morning around 8am on day 1. Earlier than 8am and the company pays overtime (undertime). That being said, they will absolutely start you at 4am if needed to get you to a plane in time to cover a trip.

Sometimes you'll start day 1 in the afternoon. But it's not a regular thing.
